Spot on!

The twists and turns comer thick and fast. Hawk is a great character. I loved the relationship between Hawk and his children- any parent will recognise those confrontations. Absolutely spot on!

Page Turners!

A new bench mark for UK crime novels. With a laconic, powerful style, Hawk is a rumpled man with impeccable hunter-seeker credentials

Great Stories

Great stories with with interesting, memorable characters. In Nathan Hawk, Douglas Watkinson has created a psychologically complex policeman to rival Rebus and Morse.

Great Read

Thoroughly enjoy this series. This 3rd book has an intriguing plot which kept me glued. Love the protagonist, quick temper and all. Interesting side characters be them his girlfriend or children this time his youngest son, the actor. The revelation and motivation behind the 1 year old crime was convincing. Hope the writer continues with the series.

Great Book!

If you like mysteries, likable people, and a good story this is the book for you. Started this book and never quit reading until the final word. One in a series, you may wish to start with volume number one, well worth the trouble finding it.

Best Hawk yet!

A riveting read, with the usual mix of brilliantly researched convoluted plot, and spot on characterisation, while Hawk's family affairs anchor the book to reality.

Another great story

Good Story, Interesting Characters, Funny Dialogue. I want more. Sadly, this is last in this series. I hope the author is working on another. Nathan Hawk is a character almost as eccentric as the clients, or rather non-clients, he takes on. His four grown and far-flung children are so real I could almost substitute my own children's names.

Riveting reading!

Absorbing 5th book, please do not let this be the last. Nathan hawk is one complex and Interesting character. His 5th mystery has a great plot line with some unusual aspects. Interspersed are funny yet warm moments involving his 4 kids and off course his independent girl friend , each character distinct. Totally absorbing and riveting reading. I hope this is not the last in the series.

Outstanding read

Another excellent effort from Watkinson! Hawk is aging, but it suits him well. His crew is getting better at handling his red rages.

Hawk is my new favorite detective

Hawk 1 was excellent, so I immediately read Hawk 2. I am now confirmed in my opinion that Hawk is my new favorite detective and look forward to reading the other books. The story was great, but just as important was learning about the interesting characters and visualizing the scenes as Hawk visited them. I was delighted to learn the expression, "raining stair rods" and other bits of local color. It was raining stair rods out my window just this morning. I wonder what Hawk's kids will get up to next.

A fun read mystery

I am touring England, Scotland, and Ireland right now as I am reading about Nathan Hawk. I have enjoyed reading on the bus and in BnB's of this story unfolding with interest. I can picture the characters he is describing as well as the places since I'm over here. I recommend it.

An enjoyable and engrossing read!

A fascinatingly flawed, former 'copper', occasionally taking on investigative work to keep relevant. He is funny, snarky, abrupt, and a really good detective. Nathan Hawk has a girlfriend and four adult children, who are all unique characters. They live all over the world, while he keeps the home fires burning in the U.K. This story of his latest case is complex, with good surprises, twists and turns. Keeping everyone's name straight is a challenge for the reader, or maybe it's just me. The writing is descriptive and flows well; easy to feel like part of the story, and in the landscape, so to say. A murder mystery, you may guess "who", but never guess "why"! An enjoyable and engrossing read!
